First drive of the year

Post by bertvorgon »

As the Header suggests, who is ready for our first tour, and where should we go. It is dry everywhere this year.

We can do something like we did last year, a short shakedown drive,do something touristy, have lunch, etc.

Or, we can plan a long one and put it on the calendar so we all can plan ahead.

Thoughts.

How's this for a suggested planned drive, Summit Point West Virginia 2016 for the 20th East Coast 510 Meet weekend of May 16? I've been doing this since 1999 in my 510. NH to WV round trip about 1000 miles unless I go to Keith's in NC like I did this year which was 1800 miles round trip with all the driving in between. The 510 not one single miss/issue in 16 drives. I'd hop in the 510 and drive out to Cali right now if I had the vacation time.

Sure, it's ONLY 5,732 miles round trip, with only 250 gallons of fuel used ( 23 MPG )

I think I'll put that on my bucket list...would be neat though!

like every year I suggest we do the duffy lake loop.......I love that epic drive....and if more guys would build gravel beaters there are some great drives we could do. hassrison east to west via duffy. back road it towards williams lake hit bralorn Darcy, highline gold bridge gang ranch.....

I've got to sort my FJ55 a bit more before that length of a gravel outing!

I would be totally up for a Duffy lake loop, why not, scenic as hell, and with a little luck.....IF WE LEFT EARLY...might just get a good shot at at least some cruising sections on the Duffy.

The Lilloett to Lytton section though is not great, but I guess we/I could tough it out.

As long as I am in town I would be up for it. I have never done the whole loop so it could be fun.

Sunday...so who is up for a drive somewhere? Going to be in the high 20's, will be beautiful.

Go to Pemberton, turn around to Whistler, have lunch...return.... short day

Go to Lilloet, have lunch and return same way...not sure I want to do the whole loop unless we have a good crowd that's up for it. Road to Lytton is really rough now. And, part of me would rather re-do the Sea to Sky than that horrible stretch from Hope to home. Duffy was paved last year, real smooth on the north segment.

Thoughts....

I can't make it Sunday. I'm home alone with the munchkins all day. I could do a Saturday drive to Pemberton. My wife has scheduled some family thing Saturday evening so I can't be gone too long.

Have fun guys – I’ll be living vicariously for the most part through this years events due to projects around the new home.

I'm logging this weekend in the yard. I have a dead spruce to come down in the front yard, and a good pile to clean up from the 6 cedars I took down out back a couple weeks ago.

I look forward to the photos.
