As promised, 20 min of video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psZwv1Q ... e=youtu.be

Before we go out next time I'm going to play with placement a settings to get a better picture. At the moment it is focused on my wiper. I think changing it to narrow rather than wide view and moving it up will make for a better video.

Great day and much fun.

Was awesome to run on roads I haven't been on in years....or never been on period. Embarrassed to admit I have never been to that Manning park lookout in my entire life, I need to get out more

Good to meet some of you for the first time and thanks for letting two of the pointy nose car guys hang with you for a day.

Thanks for organizing Keith and hope to attend more in the future.

here we go gang, hope you enjoy! The digital camera world is sure cool, instant pictures to re-live a day.

OCTOBERFAST 2015

My day started just fine, car lights off and away I go at 5:00 AM. I get out onto #1 Highway and begin the steady state cruise, with Hope about 45 minutes away. After about 15 minutes, I find myself pushing more on the gas, and nothing is happening! To quote Jon Hurt from the movie SPACEBALLS...”Oh No, not again!”

In keeping with my old school system, under the right conditions, like this morning, I get carb icing. A cool, slightly foggy morning, with high humidity, and, steady state cruising, over time. My intercooler works way to well when it is this cold, and the turbo is making no heat at all. I either have to boost the car, by getting the secondary open, or stop and let the heat soak melt the ice in the primary. There has almost been no fall trips where I have not experienced this. I elected to watch for a break with no vehicles around and give it a shot of boost. My idle gets cruddy too, as the manifold has no water cooling and is insulated from the exhaust. Oh, well, it gets made up for when it is all warm and toasty.

Thanks to all that came out and that everyone was on time. As much as we have the day to ourselves, it does go by and Norm had to be back home by 5:00. I think we did well, hitting the lunch break perfectly and then topping it off with a very high speed cruise on the way back.

When we left Hope, it was just after dawn and still shaded from the sun in the Valley. I put my sunglasses on the seat, ready to grab them when we got higher in the valley. The morning light was just starting to peak over the ridges as we went past the Hope Slide. As we got past the entrance to the park, I could see a blindingly white wall of fog ahead, so I grabbed the glasses. Wow, was it hard to see, with some of our drivers having a haze on their windshields. I took my glasses off once we were back in the shade, setting them on the seat again.

Our first slice and dice came as we got into the real twisty’s, with Richard and Norm hot on my tail, really carving into the turns as hard as possible. You would think I would remember what G-force does...anything and everything on my passenger seat proceeded to disappear into the interior of my car, of which my sunglasses were one, gone till we got to the top of the lookout! Arg, so hard to see out in the morning sun, even my car had a haze on the inside. It did not take us long to get to the lodge and heading up to the Lookout. We had NO traffic through all of this, absolute bonus round.

After a nice photo op and leg stretch, accompanied by a lot of windshield cleaning, we popped back down to the Lodge for a rest stop.

Our next leg of the trip has us on the nice four lane section through the park, fall colours spectacular and golden in the morning sun. Soon we were into the twisty’s again, swooping and diving into the corners, the road surface had some grip now and we had some heat into the tires. For you non locals this whole section is 90 KM (56 miles) of hair pin turns, up and down roller coaster sections, then finishing with another four lane cruise into the next town for a fuel stop in Princeton. What a blast through here, Norm and I getting a totally open road where we put the tires and suspension to the test.

The next leg of our journey had us heading to Merritt for lunch, another 90 KM stretch past some small lakes and then climbing steadily to around 1,000 Meters ( 3,600 FT ) with tons of tight corners, sweepers, with almost zero traffic. Norm, Byron and I had a good section with no one at all in front of us. Zoom, Zoom! It did not seem to take anytime at all to get to the Connector, where we heading down into Merritt for fuel and a very nice lunch at Boston Pizza. I topped up my tank there and added my elixir of life to the Chevron 94. From White Rock to Merritt I averaged 23.66 MPG, right where is usually sit, considering we had some good runs on the throttle. I made it back to the plant no problem on a tank of fuel and will run the balance down to see what I got on the return leg.

After lunch it was time to hit the great rolling dyno, where the posted limit is now 120 KMH (75 MPH). I elected to hang back and let someone else set the return pace, and, I could take some pictures on the move. With my 4:62 rear gears the rpm gets up there. I am thankful that the days of 13” tires are gone, as that shorter diameter really got the revs up. It did not take long for Norm to set the pace, with myself, Byron, Cam and James to make the fast pack. It did not take long for the pace to wick up to 140+ KMH ( 87 MPH) on the high speed convoy, very cool looking actually. I touched 187 KMH at one point, just seemed like nothing when you have been flowing at 140-150 KMH.

Now, a word about snow tires and a 510 that does things that it should not do. Reeling from the fact that I have seen said 510 cross a 4 x4 creek that even 4 x 4's got stuck in, then doing a perfect impression of a Group-B rally car on the gravel road, I could not believe what it did today. At one point I saw Robyn diving into corners as hard as we were on our stupidly expensive DOT race tires, all with his elevated ride height 510...and SNOW TIRES!!! Then, on the high speed Cannonball back home he was in the ballistic pack doing 150 KMH through the corners, all the while with a silly grin on his face. I have phoned Bernie Eccelstone today and told him we are signing up a 510 and that Lewis Hamilton is on notice, don't need no steenking fancy smancy F-1 car.

In no time at all, a few were peeling off to go see the Othello Train tunnels, just outside of Hope. I wanted to be home not too late so kept on moving with Norm and Robyn. When we moved into the 110 KMH zone, I wound it down a hair, with Norm and Robyn disappearing off into the traffic flow. I went back via the new South Perimeter road, which while it is a bit longer than going though Langley it is much faster late in the day as there are minimal traffic lights. I tucked the car away and other than the usual road dust and some big BUG SPLATS, the car was quite clean. I rolled into my house at 5:00 PM on the dot, virtually another 12 hour 510 road trip.

My distance on the GPS was 646 Km ( 401 miles ), with a moving average of 97 KMH and an overall average of 92 KMH. I made sure to turn my GPS off as soon as we stopped, so as to keep the actual travelling data as pure as possible. In looking at the distance, it looks like the Hope to Princeton to Merritt loop, is the same as the Merritt to Hope to Home distance, considering we did the Lookout drive which is 15 KM round trip. I nailed 23.66 MPG for the one leg and will try to see what I got on the return leg.

For the record our travellers were: Byron and Nina, James and Rob, Glen and Wendy, Norm, Dean, Mike and Trevor, Ron and Ethan, Richard, Robyn and Mandy, Cam and Susan , and of course myself.

That was a blast for sure, as we had some good, hard runs at the corners, some just plain beautiful cruising scenery, and of course the most important part, some good laughs with great people! As the years have gone by, we sure have had some fantastic trips and they just seem to get better. That's three good road trips so far this season, plus a few car shows and some trips to Specialty. I'm going to do few things to the car now, to get it ready for winter, and possible a day drive before my insurance expires on October 13.

Something we should talk about, and not to rain on Norms's parade, is publicly showing these videos. I had thought about that during the Fort Casey run, and now of course this run. I too tend to forget that we are in a different time now, where the police and others may view these and we ALL have a hard time.

This is what was sent to me, and I totally agree with the content:

"I don't know what the group's Policy on posting video's to the Forum is, but they should be Private video's only... with a Password required by contacting the Video owner. You can't be too careful these days with " Politically Correct " Nanny State that we live in these days. It's not the 70's or 80's anymore. Cars can be impounded and people prosecuted based on a YouTube video. Happens all the time and the RCMP do scan for these types of " activities ".

In fact, I will not give permission to show my car in any Video's unless it is strictly Private. I'd also PM the group about not " advertising " anything about the " cruising speeds " that they were doing. Not being paranoid. Just careful... "

any comments are welcome.....

I cam adjust the setting on the videos if you like. I always make sure they you cannot see any plates of the cars in the videos.
Also we were not speeding in the video, we were just driving at the posted limits even through the corners at above the advised speed. At least according to my Speedometer.

Edit
I have adjusted it to unlisted for now. You have to click on the link to see it you can't just search YouTube and find it. Please let me know if the group would like me to restrict it more.

yup it sucks having to wait out the statute of limitations to post something.

I guess we were lucky that helicopters don't follow that road like they do on the 99. but I guess there's an app for that
