Like a lot of us, I've got the same setup, fairly recently installed (roadster PP and 200mm disk) so am wondering if there are "early warning" signs-- besides taking out the transmission to do a visual check.
Yes. There definitely was a discernible noise when the clutch was engaged. Other then the noise I wouldn't have known there was a problem. I endeded up switching to the clutchnet pp and the issue went away.

Received the newly produced Datsport inner quarter window seals the other day and finally got a chance to review and install them.

The seals come pre-notched and they were spot on. At first the notch for the bracket was off some, but that ended up only being due to user error.

After several failed attempts (mounting the seal in the frame first, using Windex as a lube, etc) I ended up installing the seal onto the glass first and then liberally lubricating the seal and the frame channels with white lithium grease. I then slid the glass with seal into the frame channels making sure to set the seal into the far corner as much as possible. Make sure the seal doesn't slide back on the glass while inserting it into the frame as you'll want as much of the rubber towards the far corner to help with installing the frame end piece later. Make sure to push the seal down around the bracket as it tends to ride up some. The seal notches for the bracket should be touching at the top and the bottom of the bracket. Viola!. A few minor taps on the end of the glass with a mallet to set everything and you should be good. If not, go over the seal's entirety 'walking" it towards the far corner. Make sure to check the slickness on the remaining exposed seal and channels as the lube may have dried up some by now. This next part was sort of tricky as the frame piece is slightly curved and I didn't want to risk marring my frame's paint. I slide the end piece on and then using my body as a base I pulled the end piece toward me until I could see that one screw hole lined up with the mounting tab of the frame. I loosely screwed in a screw and then flipped the window over and did the exact same to the other side. Once I had two of them in getting the last two was easy. All in all this took a few hours because my components were filthy and needed to be cleaned before I could attempt the install.

One frame down, one to go. I'd guesstimate the next one will take about 30/45 minutes. Good luck!

Fantastic quality and fit! (I only wish I would have purchased the outer seals from Datsport, too as the Datsunland socal one's are too big and are basically made of foam :x )

If any of you are as finicky as I am you can still get the correct screws for these windows and brackets from nissan. You'll need 11 per window as the hinges also use the same screw.

Great tutorial. I remember after paint trying to get my glass into the old seals, a large PIA. I am sure there are a number of us here who will be doing this seal replacement in the near future now that they are available..

Thank you for the review Colby & a special thanks from Trace for the comments on the swag.

We are very pleased that a discerning 510 owner such as your self has given our new seal such a fine review.
Now we can supply these seals with confidence that not only are we the only business that supplies these seals.
But they that are the best in the world.

Thank you again Colby & thanks to all you Blokes on the realm for supporting us to be able make theses fine products.

Our Japanese agent has said that the coupe seals are better than the OEM product.
The rubber in the quarter window seal & our new smooth windshield seals is very special.

Some years back our state government had to replace the sluice gate seals on a large reservoir dam.
The small business that won the contract to produce the rubber & extrude the seals is the same company that makes our rubber extrusions for the new seals. The rubber mix was designed to meet high government standards as the gate seals sit on the concrete face of the dam. The seals are subject to heat & cold along with high UV exposure. The pressure on the seals is immense. The seals were required to have a minimum service life of 40 years.

When we asked for the very best rubber they could mix for us, they offered the same mix they used on the sluice gate seals.
Not cheap to produce as the mix has less fillers than normal automotive seals. Good rubber is expensive & fillers are used to reduce the rubber content.
Fillers are needed in rubber but cheap seals have too much filler as it reduces the cost. This is why most of the cheap seals crack & deform.

For certain our Datsun's are not going to suffer the extreme conditions of the dam seals.

Our rubber manufacturer recommend when installing any window seal that attaches to the glass, to use Palmolive dish washing detergent
as a lubricant. The type that women soak their hands in to soften them. This will not affect the rubber & can be cleaned off easily.
Use of a good lubricant will enable the seal to be seated & aligned correctly.

cheers
Baz & Trace.

Started working on painting my re-chromed Datsun license plate frame. Was raised in the Dub C, but the car was from further up north - Grass Valley/Davis area. Tried to get more of the car's history but the DMV apparently will not give out that info. any longer.

Scored these old school ts-x20's for next to nothing. They currently sound like dick though, but I'll end up upgrading the guts later on. For now they'll just be for show.

I've been busy trying to tie up (zip-tie that is - Ha) loose ends on the dime and get the wiring all sorted out on the remainder of the defunct dash components. I was unsuccessful in locating a stock tach. harness nested among my stock wiring, even though I did find a 'blue bundle,' but I think it's for AC or the radio. After rigging a crude harness to verify that the tach. works I vested some real time making a stock looking harness (a lot of electrical tape!) and running it along the same route as the stock engine bay harness' path. It's blending nicely, but I still have a little more work to do on it to get it to my liking.

• For the first time ever I have a working Tach., blower and a cigarette lighter. Yay me!

• Still need to solve the 'fasten seat belt light,' and the added bluebird glove box light wiring. Anyone care to chime in on those?

Got a delivery from brown Santa the other day...
Decided it was easier and more cost effective to just install these then deal with a catch-can setup and tubing. They'll work for now.

Found this curved braided hose among my parts stash and decided to run with it. It will give the valve cover area a little different of a look with the filter bent oven º90+ and provides some hood clearance - not that I really need it though.

Trimmed the hose some and sourced these single wire clamps from Ace Hardware. If you don't go there already just know that it's a good place to get metric screws and bolts. Still need to cut down the clamps a bit as they're too long for my liking.

Mounted this repo. emblem awhile ago but it never quiet fit well and would fall out randomly. My plan was simply to glue it in place, but upon further investigation I found that the emblem backing was too tall in the middle (compared to the stock one) which prevented it from fully seating into the glove box door.

After shaving the bridge down about 4mm I was able to pop back on, which fit a lot better, but it was then a little loose for my liking. It wouldn't fall out, but it could rock in place with a little bit of force. I had a tube of black RTV laying around and decided to put a few drops on the mounting tabs and bridge to keep it all seated. Viola! Done deal. Fits great and no movement at all. Another item checked off the list.

I still haven't finished the license plate frame, but I did decide to use the O.G. Datsun engine block color (which I have a can of left over from my years ago) as the background color. I think it'll look period correct.

Just about finished painting the emblems. Still need another coat on the grill emblem and then a quick polish before I can install them. Emblem clips are on their way!

Where did you find the 4-speed emblem and what is it off of?

I picked that up off of ebay.com.au about 6 years ago and it's off of the Datsun Bluebird 4-door sedan. I've only come across one other one since then. Pretty bad reference photo, I know, but Ted Lo's Bluebird site is long gone and it contained a few user's pics. which showed one or two of these badges as well.

Its been awhile since my last post and since then I've refinished my C pillar outer vents. Would love to have gone the chrome route but wanted something more economical and instantaneous, so I went the SSS black route.

First thing I did was strip the old chrome off the vents using Bleach. Yep. Good'ol fashion Bleach. This took a couple tries and needed some scrubbing between baths, but it eventually removed all of the chrome (and other metals needed to successfully chrome plastic) from the vents without harming the plastic.

Still had this plastic primer laying around from my dash restore.

Once everything was cleaned and lightly sanded it was time for the first coat of plastic primer.
