I asked friend of mine who is heavy into British cars, "Whats the hot tip on SU oil now?" He came by with this, SU damper oil, who would of thought SU brand oil! Nice non-spill bottle too;

So I changed out the oil, runs better now. And since I was plating some more parts on the FJ, did the fuel filter bracket;

I finally got my dime on the road today...I've been storing this little gem in my garage for the last 15 years. I've spent the last two weeks Re-replacing Everything!
I want to thank 510 garage for his wisdom, patience and undying love for these cars. After 2 days of frustration and troubleshooting,we finally got this beast to roar once again!! I didn't care about the flat spots...I was on cloud 9

After 9 years of the KA transmission on the FJ, I finally fixed the trans tunnel. It was made all the worse because I had to remove the carpeting last year due to a windshield leak. Next is to Por-15 the floors.

Yesterday morning, pumped the last of my fuel out of the tank, after making up a quick AN fitting adapter to a rubber hose. I had EXACTLY one gallon Imperial of fuel left.

As it turns out, the VDO gauge does have a calibration screw on the side, where, when the tank is empty, you set it to the "E" on the gauge, so I did that. I made a plastic screw driver out of a pair of hard plastic tweezers, so as to not have any static as recommended by VDO.

Then, as I still have some scientific beakers left, for accuracy of VOLUME, I put one gallon in at a time ( 4.5 litres ) The first gallon did not register, the second gallon showed to the first line past empty..PERFECT, so when I get to that point I know I have about 40 miles left of fuel. At the 5 gallon addition, it showed just a hair past 1/2 tank and at the final additon, it was at the last line before the indicated "F" mark, that was just fine.

On the Spring Thaw drive, knowing my distance traveled and with the one gallon left, I got 24 MPG on the tank, on our 510 drives I usually get between 22 -23 on average.

For TOTAL volume in my tank, just to the point of overflow, I put in a 10.22 IMP gallons, or, 46.45 litres. This extra is due to my anti-surge fuel well in the bottom of my fuel tank.

I'm happy with this now, as I at least know when I get down to that indicated E, I have about 1 gallon left, which is totally usable due to my fuel well. My auxilary fuel tank holds 1.5 gallons, so at 11.5 gallons total say at 22 MPG, gives me a range of about 253 Miles, or, about 407 KM.

Well this is recent work but not all today.

Had the car professionally buffed and polished. Nice to see the original paint shine so nicely.

Also installed my 68 Grill and a pair of NOS 68 headlight surrounds.

Getting ready for the SPEC510 Meet next month.

Finally got a new windshield installed. The old one was so cloudy it really sucked to look through it. The guy that did the work has been doing windshields since the 70s.

He pulled the glass and we found some minor rust damage so he said he would come back in a few days to give me time to fix it.

I sanded it all down, treated it with several coats of Zero Rust and then used JB Weld to close up the little holes. Per Lou's advice, I built up the low areas a bit so the water would go towards the drain. Once it dried, I used my dremel to smooth it down.
Hopefully, there will be no issues in the future.

He came back out a few days later and did a great job on the install. He really takes his time and watching him work was a treat.

I am quite happy with the new glass. It is so crystal clear. It's like driving a different car. It is also tinted across the top which is really nice for my eye issues on a bright day.

While I had it all apart, I pulled the cowl panel. I don't think it was ever off the car before. There was almost no leaves or any debris in there. I hosed it out to flush the drains and snaked the center drain too. Then I lubed up the wiper assembly and installed my Mazda Wiper Motor Conversion. Thanks Kelvin and James, the 510 keeper, for the help with that.

I started my car yesterday, warmed it up, then put in a fresh set of BP7Es plugs. As I stepped back I noticed fluid under the car....YIKES. I think that is everyone's worst nightmare when you see that and think.."What just let go....!?"

I guess when I topped up the rad after our Pemberton drive, I did not allow for enough expansion and my catch can overflowed. My catch can is in the passenger side wheel well, so I had to jack up the car and remove the wheel to siphon some off.

If it is nice on Sunday I will head over to the Steveston car show.

I tried to cut out new door panels using a rotary tool and some thin wood I bought from Home Depot this past weekend. It turns out, I'm going to outsource either the door cards or the entire panels. I just don't think I have the proper tools to make the panels how I want them to be. However, I did do an oil change for the dime, and so I feel a little bit accomplished.
