50 Shades of Grey....
Re: 50 Shades of Grey....
Did you have any luck with the fender roller?
That's a pretty stiff part of the car to move. And you can't go too far as you'd be into the door recess area.
Tire makes also play a roll in fitment. For instance I have found that performance tires generally have a more square cross section than touring or all season tires. That being said, I ran Yoko's and Pirelli's in the day on those wheels...

Byron was it a 68 or 69 car that the snow flakes cleared on ?

Ouch sorry to hear about the crash But at least it looks great again !
Re: 50 Shades of Grey....
Car is pretty solid but the under carriage has surface rust over a significant portion. It's keeping me awake at nights so before it starts raining 24/7 it time to clean, treat and seal the under carriage.
Lets wrap this baby up and get filthy cleaning and prepping the under carriage.
Time to seal it up - KBS Coatings urethane paint - higher solids and better UV resistance than POR-15 at a lower cost. I've switched over.

Re: 50 Shades of Grey....
make sure you replace that brake line. the paint will bite deep and its high surface tension will cause cracks in the hose.
did you use any type of acid to neutralize the rust prior to painting ?
I'm fearful of rust paint with its often higher surface tension than adhesion witch in my mind creates perfect conditions for poultice corrosion.

Re: 50 Shades of Grey....
Brake lines have been replaces with a hot tip from Byron - pre made lengths from Lordco our local parts store.
Rust is neutralized with a zinc phosphate which is part of the KBS Coatings surface prep - Rust Blaster IIRC. They also have a degreaser.
I haven't completed the surface yet - urethane seam sealer and bed liner are the next step in the process.

Re: 50 Shades of Grey....
good to hear about the phosphate. will you need to sand the rust paint or use a tie coat to adhere the bedliner ? I did the same thing with the pre made lordco lines on 6inches of rust.

Re: 50 Shades of Grey....
Yes you need to sand it down to get a good bite on it. Optimally using a urethane bed liner before the urethane paint kicks off would be the least amount of work but you can only tie up a friend's hoist for so long The dirty work is done now so it will probably be a winter on the floor under jack stands job once I bump the 260Z project out of the garage.RMS wrote:good to hear about the phosphate. will you need to sand the rust paint or use a tie coat to adhere the bedliner ?
