Does your local auto-x require the entire carpet to be out of the car? Locally here they just require no floor mats. I would presume that the carpet being left in would be fine, but now you have me wondering even for open track days. Didn't even think about this idea. Hmm...
Generally speaking, anything that is loose under your feet needs to come out. Floor mats generally are loose, maybe they have a hook under the seat that locates the mat - this isn't satisfactory as any loose floor mat can become balled up under the pedals and create an issue on a track day. Hence the need for the rule to remove them. My BMW on the other hand had floor mats that were secured to the carpet and could not easily come loose, I was never asked to remove these at tech. So it really depends on your car and how it was manufactured or how you've build it.

Carpet should be laid down in a manner that is secure. There is no rule stating "no carpet" in any grass roots motorsport rule book that I have ever seen. Just a variant of the clause above regarding loose mats. If your carpet just sits on the floor with no way to secure it (ie snaps, good Velcro or glues down), then yes carpet then becomes an issue at the track (auto X, time attack, lapping session or otherwise) - mostly for your own and others safety which is why this rule is in place.

Hopefully that would clear up your choices made.

Sounds like I need to glue it in. Thanks for putting the idea out there. Amazing all the little things that you don't think of as you are going until the problem is in front of you.

I knew someone would give us the strait dope.
I don't like glued carpet or anything that can cause poultice corrosion.....
I think im going to steal what I see going on with the tunnel and rear being one piece and two easily removed fronts that lap the tunnel affixed with snaps.

That header looks so bad ass! Why did you pick the TTT camber plates over the other options? The red looks little out of place IMHO.

the subtle red accents on the camber plates, alt winding's and poly bushes will probably work out well if kept minimal...little glimpses...say.. the bit of red on the stock 68 badge ....red calipers, lenses, mustache bar ....I can see it all working together nice .....but one piece too many or in the wrong red and it could be over...thin line to walk.

To be honest, I really didn't know what color I was going to paint the car for the first 2 years of the project. But I had an idea of what I wanted out of the suspension. I called Techno Toy and they were super helpful and talked to me at length about what I needed and promised that if the coilover springs were not right that they would send me different ones at no charge. So without knowing the paint color, I figured red suspension parts would be fine on blue, white or black (three colors I figured I'd go with).

It's probably preference, but so much of this car is blue and black that I kind of like the little red accents of the suspension. Front badge is blue and red. Rear of the car is blue with all red tail lights. Feels like just the suspension being a matched red is ok. If it really bothers me I can always get the parts color changed. You've seen everything that will be red on the car, and I think it's pretty minimal.

It's been forever since I've updated about this car, mostly because it was a few months of custom wiring being completed. But I thought I should share a photo of the front grill and fenders going on for the last time (well of the intial build at least).

The only thing that didn't turn out on the front of the car would really take an observant eye to notice. When the body work was being done the lower valance was so beat up that it made no sense to even try to smooth it out. So instead we removed it, and purchased a repo piece and installed that. Well... didn't think of one thing at the time. The turn lenses for a 68 are a different size than most years... and our repo was designed for the later turn signals. Since the car was painted already, I went ahead and found some later turn signals and just put those in because they would fit properly. A little sad that an oversight cost me one more piece of 68 originality, but the overall look is so good that I'm fine with one small misstep.

Bumpers on and everything lined up. Should go out for the headliner this week and then the rest of the interior will go in.
