Ecotec 510
Re: Ecotec 510
Would those mpg numbers be even higher with a stock (150ish hp) Ecotec? What is it about the design of the Ecotec that allows it to make power so much more efficiently than anything in the Nissan "catalogue"?
Re: Ecotec 510
No, I think most of the mpg gains come from the VVT variable valve timing. There's oil actuated cam gears on both camshafts, that adjust on the fly for max power under wot, and also for max mpg under light throttle. This is also the secret to the higher hp/L than similar non vvt engines.510tdi wrote:Would those mpg numbers be even higher with a stock (150ish hp) Ecotec? Teaser shot of newest mod. 2016 STI rear hub assemblies. Design and machining of an upright to mount the bolt on hub bearing to my trailing arms in the works. My original frankenstein rear trailing arms have worked well, but I think I can do better and trim weight with these modular bearings.

New rear knuckles are engineered, designed, machined and assembled on the car. 7050 aluminum. Dropped 7 lbs per side of unsprung weight over the old cast iron Subaru pieces. Revised the lower shock mount location, and made new upper shock mounts to get everything to clear.

Thanks guys. Wow, Featured build! These uprights have been hiding in my head for a few years, finally being able to make them a reality is a great thing. Car is now aligned and brakes are bled. Road testing tomorrow, I'll see if the unsprung weight loss is noticable.

Perfected the flaws in my prototype R180 diff cover and machined a few more. I'll list these up in the classifieds soon. Machined from 7050 aircraft aluminum. They'll ship with a gasket, vent, -8 ORB plugs, and new bolts. Very stiff internal structure should add a little extra rigidity to the diff case and hold 1/3 more oil. Engraved one with '510' from Julian's vector emblem art file, turned out looking slick.

Re: Ecotec 510
Thanks for the interest guys! I'm thinking around $550. These 3 are ready to sell as soon as I get the plugs in this week. They will include everything needed to bolt on. I can make more no problem. I can also engrave 510 on the others if that's desired. They'd look awesome hard anodized but I'd have to have quite a few sold to make that affordable. So they'll be sold in bare machined finish, but 7050 is pretty tough stuff.

Re: Ecotec 510
Just read through this build. Amazing job man. One quick question, do you have any pictures of what you did to the rear upper shock mount? Looks like your coilover has a spherical bearing on the top hat as well and was curious. Keep up the great work!
