Could anyone help me with the measurements on the side view mirror in order for original placement? Driver side mirror only (picture is just reference to car progress)

Re: side view mirror placement
do you have a picture of the original screws or know the size?
Re: side view mirror placement
Byron had a factory template that he had scanned - that you could lay on the door to locate the holes
Finished is better than perfect......

Re: side view mirror placement
Here's the template that Byron originally provided. IIRC, the exact placement on the door could vary somewhat though, for unknown reasons (different years? different installers? different days of the week?)

Re: side view mirror placement
After I did all that body work and paint to my 510 and especially fixing the damage in that area of the mirrors because of the screws and people bumping the mirrors creating some metal distortion, I couldn't bring myself to drill holes in the doors for side mirrors. So I installed BMW mirrors that are up off the door. Now if I had thought ahead and was going to use my stock side mirrors I'd of added some reinforcement to that area with captive nuts so threaded bolts could be used not screws. The BMW mirrors do breakaway so if their bumped and their off a 320i but other mirrors of the same design will work, I just used the mirrors because I got'm for $10 a set at the Bone Yard so I picked up two sets.
