Hello everyone, I’m new to the realm and 510 community. From the first time I saw a Datsun 510 I fell in love them and new I wanted to by one, so I saved up for a few years, did my research, and began my search for the right one. Now at twenty years old I had enough money to by my first car and what better then a 510! So a few months ago I ended up buying a Turquoise 1968 Datsun 510 sedan (68 being my favorite year of 510 because of its uniqueness). She needs work and I’m trying to restore her to former glory. As of now she is running with an automatic transmission unfortunately, and a L16 engine. Im planning on redoing the wiring, interior (which its pretty much stripped), getting bodywork done (has some dents and dings, and starting to have little rust in lower quarter panel by wheel), and an SR swap with 5 speed transmission + R180 rear diff, upgraded breaks, suspension etc. ect… Im still looking for some 68 parts, such as a driver’s side mirror, and an ignition switch with key (currently the cylinder to my ignitions switch is gone and I’m using a screw driver to start it). I got it in relatively good condition, she a good project and I’m really excited finally have my own 510 and be a part of the community!. So far Ive stripped the cars interior, cleaned/ polished the aluminum interior trimming, cut out the few small spots of cancer and patch welded it. Then I grinded away any surface rust and grime and painted on a layer of POR15 to rust proof it. I’ve also done some other minor work to it but it’s been difficult to find time with University and work. The Realm and Ratsun have been a wealth of knowledge for me and will be of great use during my own 510 projects
