As I was so conflicted about going, I looked at the traffic cams off and on all day, some pretty good rain fell, and I just talked to a guy just south of Canby, pouring rain right now and the weekend weather does not sound great, whatever. I hope it does go well for the show!

I'm looking forward to the drive to Penticton, hope I get a break then.

Cool morning here in White Rock with rain coming for midday. Yah, I was looking forward to both meeting the people that occupy this site and of course maybe get to shake John Morton's hand. Having had him as a driving force back in the 70's for my racing endeavors, would have been very cool to say you were an inspiration for a LOT of us.

Well guys, I had the absolute thrill of my life tonight. I was asked a couple weeks ago if I could interview and moderate a Q & A session with John Morton at the catered dinner tonight. I was honorered to do so, and it went very well. John is such a humble guy, and honestly I absolutely enjoyed his discussion and enguagement with the audience. It was supposed to be a 45 - 60 minute session, but two hours went by in a flash!

The show is going great. There was rain on the way down, and sun, and rain and sun...and traffic. Today started out ok, but then progressed into spotted rain and showers in the morning with the sun coming out in the afternoon. I ended up burnt and glowing for my interview!

I dropped my 10x10 in the trunk, and it became a rain and sun shade for many.

As always, there are just a great group of people here, it never ceases to amaze me how cool this group of people really are. The show is well organized, the beef brisket and chicken we had for dinner was absolutely amazing, and the weather looks really good for tomorrow and the drive back after the show appears to be dry the whole way.

Photos to come when I get back. I just hope someone took photos of the interview tonight. It was such a thrill for me to do it.

Well, the Sunday car show turned out great - weather wise and for turnout. Oddly with the weather leading up to the event being so iffy, there were more roadsters than I have ever seen at a Canby event!

I took some photos, but ran my battery out and didn't have a second one charged (silly!!).

Steve's perpetually great looking time piece. The paint on this car is ancient, yet it still looks great. Steve and Kate were also the chief event organizers for the past two years, he's done a great job.

Speaking of old cars, Dave Lum's VG30DETT is still as fast as ever - told it still breaks the street tires loose at 70+ MPH - that's just insane!

The Bronze got 2nd in 510. Personally I thought there were much nicer cars, but thanks to those who did vote as I'm indebted. It sure got a lot of attention all day long. Seems I'm not the only nut wanting to retain the L motors

Best 510 - I'll bet many would never see the day - a stock 69 wagon took best 510 overall. And there is no doubt that this car deserved this honor. It was beautifully kept and presented very well. Congratulations. It just shows where we are going in the 510 circles.

I wished I'd taken photos of the interior, but the windows were up and the glass really takes away from the quality.

There were so many more really gorgeous cars that I did not get photos og. A D30 Skyline with an RB26, an electric 521, a pile of 620's with just about every mod you could think of, even a few 720's including a survivor 4x4 kk that I really liked, A slammed Maxima that looked great on Works, plenty of 1200's in sedans and fast backs, lots of wagons including one so low that you physically could not look under it! so much really cool stuff. The rain the day before was a damper, but you would not have known it!

A crazy set up - a 1600 manifold cut off with plates welded to it to accept 4 bolt 240 SU's, only the 240 twin 32/36 adapters were used with carbs on top. What a crazy set up - you could be the only guy with.....

Why is average Mexican food in the US so good everywhere I go? It's a good thing I don't live in the US - I'd probably weigh 400 lbs in 2 years time. But damn was this good!

The trip home was spent like this for roughly 70% of the time. I followed the Wolfman all the way to Lynnwood. 4300 RPM, 75 MPH, 14:1 and an exhaust temp gauge that was all over the map - I obvious have a wiring problem to address here.

And the trip stats, which are obviously questionable in regards to the top speed sighted. I'd like to say I hit that top speed, but somehow I don't think so. The moving time and distance seem right however. The moving average of under 75 kph speaks for itself - lots of traffic, especially on the way down. Boarders were ok in both directions - 45-60 minutes. But we left a bit later on Friday as I chose to do some work before leaving. That 1.5 hour delay in departure cost us 1.5 hours sitting in rush hour traffic in Portland. It took over an hour to drive 20 miles at the end - crazy! Should have stuck to the plan.
Moving time was 14 hours, but actual travel time was over 18.5 hours for the two directions, 10.5 hours going down, 8 hours coming back. The good ole days of a 6 hour drive to Portland appear to be done. However the drive is way smoother than it was 30 years ago. Most of the concrete is gone, with nice smooth blacktop covering it up.

That is just too long for that drive. Should I go next year, I would drive down in the middle of the night, get there around 2.

To think we went from the Border to PIR in 3 hours and 20 minutes........

Well another Canby show in the bag, I have to say that was the best Canby I have had. From beginning to end Kate and I had a great time, between all the stuff we do I had time to stop and visit with people and eat here and there. I want to thank all the volunteers that helped out through the weekend to make that possible, Dave, Kenny, Cam, Brian Leslie and Andrew Record, Doug and Collen, Dave and Carson, Mark and Megan, Byron, Greg, Julie and Craig, Chip and Cade and I'm sure I'm forgetting some but THANK YOU very much, we couldn't do this without you guys helping.

Big thank you to Byron for MC-ing the Sat night John Morton Q & A, he did such a good job with John, his stories had us listening and laughing for 2 hours. I saw John signing everything from books and shirts to cars and parts, he took the time to look at all the cars and talk and take pics with lots of Dato owners, def a down to earth good guy, they say not to meet your hero's but not the case with John, he's a class act! Now how am I going to follow that up next year? We ended up setting a new record for cars entered in the event also and it showed as we were packed Sat and Sun. even with the poor weather we had. Lou won the long distance award with 3400 mile trek in a 510, that's dedication! Like our shirts said this year "Do It In a Datsun"
