Fort Casey drive 2017
Here we are in the middle of July, I have now done 1,800 KM this season so far.
I looked at the drive to Winthrop, but, they are paving 23 miles from Sedro Woolley to Concrete, Wa.. Even though it is week day, the highway could be a sea of cones, fresh oil and pavement, so I would rather do that in September at this point, less tourists also.
So, Fort Casey is a nice morning drive if we hit it early, explore the Fort, then work our way back but NOT retrace the Chuckanut Drive, but head over to Sedro Woolley and then go back the old #9 Highway back up and cross in Aldergrove by early afternoon. Last time Norm, Dean and I did this I was home by 2-3 in the afternoon.
What weekend might work? This weekend is too early a notice, but after that.....

Re: Fort Casey drive 2017
Right now from the 29th weekend on I can make it work. This weekend I have my son's birthday and next weekend I and going to attempt an autox again.
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?
Re: Fort Casey drive 2017
I would be up for a drive. Do any weekdays work for you guys?
Did you get some seat time at AutoX? I was thinking the same thing to try my luck at it as well? looks like there is still lots of room...

Re: Fort Casey drive 2017
The last one I signed up for turned out to be a really rainy day. My tires would not cope with rain very well. This time it looks like it will be nice. If I like it I'm going to sing up for a few more. Having another 510 out would 've great.

I have declared myself unemployable for the remainder of the summer and am open to all Datsun related activities.

Re: Fort Casey drive 2017
Shall we plan on the 29th, just put it down as the day to go, weather permitting! The weekend after is the long weekend so I do not think we want to get hung up in that coming back to the Border.
I take it the Slalom is on the 23rd? I might just pop over and watch and see how the course actually is. Yes, I will be interested as to how LONG the course is time wise and if you need a Hewlett-Packard 9100A computer to remember the course. I don't think I would do well now with a sea of cones type deal.
Re going for a drive weekdays, I have just had a key person up and quit from my work, so depending on how busy the rest of the mining season is, weekdays are out. Maybe later in the fall, although with two of us 510 guys at work, hard to leave one behind.

As it stands I am going for the autox on the 22nd. It looks like the course is about a minute normally depending on the car.

I think there is also one on the 23rd. Just way easier for me on the 22nd. I dont have to deal with sunday ferries that way.

Re: Fort Casey drive 2017
Allrighty then....
July 29th, meet at the Campbell Valley store, 176th and 8th, to be crossing the Border at 5:30. Weather must be close to awesome as usual.
DO NOT FORGET PASSPORT
By the time we get through, depending on how many come, we should hit the start of Chuckanut Drive around 6:15 or so, that hopefully would get us ahead of any weekend traffic. We can then get across the flats and stop for breakfast somewhere, then continue to the Fort and explore for a few hours. Bring some snackies too.
Our route back would be to retrace our steps to the main highway, then head East to Sedro Woolly and back up the old #9 straight North, then either heading west to Aldergrove, or, just hit Sumas. My choice would be Aldergrove.
To date:?
