Unfortunately mine went to a wreckers years ago :(

I’ve got one that will need an overhaul, it sat outside for years and the shift linkage looks rusty and would likely need to be disassembled.

Is this for your 620 project? If so this trans is 4 7/8” short for the application - unless you had something else cooking....

Yes that would be for the 620. If I can make up the difference via driveshaft that would be fine. That trans had a dogleg pattern (R-1,2-3,4-5) that I would like to swap in, the 620 has a 4 speed right now.

Edm = Edmonton... AB

Pat and my father hung out when I was a kid - I grew up around this gang auto crossing, circle track racing, and ice racing along with a few rallies and whatever motorsport event might roll through the city. Good bunch of guys, many memories.

Sorry to age you Pat... but to be honest (for everyone else) Pat's aged right between my father and I... and I'm no longer a spring chicken.

I have a line on a NIB dogleg, apparently came from southside back in the early 90s. came with a car out of a dry east van garage. bag is broken and it is wrapped in garbage bags. stored in a dusty woodworking barn for the last 10 or so years. $1500firm + shipping from v6v 1l6

it will take two days or more to dig it out of the tower of oak chairs.

You have a '77 620 so get a 71B 5 speed for it. It is absolutely DROP IN. No need to change anything but put the speedometer pinion from your 4 speed in it to keep the speedometer accurate. Even the shifter is the same and in the same location. The dogleg is too short so you will need to modify the transmission mount and lengthen the driveshaft. The speedometer pinion won't swap and you have that irritating reverse above first shift pattern. For a truck you need the faster 1st 2nd rather than the 4th to 5th shift. Nissan saw fit to use a six cylinder 4 and 5 speed transmission in the later heavier and larger engine 620 for a reason. They are stronger.

Doglegs were only used in the '77-'79 S10 200sx and rarely as an option in the A10. They are rare and very likely well used by now. They are adequate for a light 510. The FS5W71B 5 and the F4W71B 4 speeds were built for use in the 280z and 810, both were heavier six cylinder cars and co-opted for use in the 620 truck. The biggest advantage is they are more plentiful.

'77-'78 280z
'79-'83 280zx (non turbo) I don't advise the '80-'83 transmissions as the OD it too high, but you can.
'78-'80 810
'81-'84 Maxima
'78-'79 620
'80 720 (2wd)

That's a lot of transmissions to pick through and these are only the L series ones that directly bolt up!

If you swap your 4 speed front case on you can also convert the following transmissions to L series..

'80-'83 S110 200sx Z series
'84-'86.5 S12 200sx CA series
'82-'86.5 720 Z or SD series (gas or diesel engines)

The 620 is a '76 KC with 4 speed. Thanks for the info - I won't have the truck in my garage until spring so won't probably be jumping on a trans yet - working out the plan of what exactly I'm going to build as. I'm leaning heavily to staying with the L20B but turbo'd, I'd like to net around 250hp as long I can have it reliable. If I have to swap, prefer to keep it as light on the front end as possible.

You would need some good engine bits and very good fuel to make that sort of power in your 2 litre.

What was your plan?

If it has to be an L series engine... or look like one... get a Z24 and put your U67 head on it, (there's more to it than this) but it would (sort of) be an L24B to start with. That's a 20% increase in displacement and 20% easier towards your 250 goal. (which I thing unreasonable) If over 200 cut to the chase and do what everyone else does and get an SR20.

thats OK, now I dont feel obligated to get a passport.

Ill dig my self deeper , its what $6000usd for a good sr ? to get 250hp out of an L you would be looking to spend around $8000usd ? you can buy a rebuilt 4.3 for 1500ca.

You can get a front clip with a low milage SR20DET S15 pumping 250 stock HP that can easily be bumped to 300hp for a neighborhood ballpark price of $3500-$4000 give or take or just the complete S15 SR motor for a ballpark price of $3000. You could go VG33 for cheaper and toss $$$ at it for easy 200+ hp and torque.
