Hello im new to Datsuns (Sort of)

Post by iconicsteve »

Name: Steven (iconicsteve)
Age: 25
Country:England
Vehicle: Datsun 510 (5 door)
Year: 1972

Hello, I am new to the Datsun 510 realm I was sent here from one of the Facebook groups.

My story starts before I was even born, my dad had a 1972 Datsun 510. I never even witnessed it on the road he was always just working on it, until eventually it was just put away for storage for the intention of one day completing it. My father recently passed away and I hadn't even looked at the car since I was probably six years old, I have always loved the 510 range but im hoping to be able to complete the project on behalf of my father who sadly didn't get the chance.

I hope my brief but to the point intro is appropriate, please let me know if you would like any more information :D .

With a 5 door, I'll assume you have a wagon/estate car.

Go ahead and fill in your general location under you avatar - it will really help when you pose questions.

That's a cool story that you want to pick up where your dad left off all those years ago. Certainly there are regular people here who can likely assist. Post your questions well and they will be answered - it's a really good forum in that way.

And of course we want to see some photos - especially one that's been tucked away for so many years - almost a barn find in a way.

Look forward to your posts and pictures. And we now have 3 guys on here from England :-)

Very cool photos.

As there are very few Europeans on this site, it’s great to see cars of a different specification than those delivered in North America. Is this car a 1400 model? 4 spd floor shift possibly? Which dash board is in it and was your car delivered with a metric or imperial speedometer? We’d love to see some interior and trim shots.

It appears that the front valence (apron) and fenders (wings) have had recent paint work, possibly a repair completed, and that work on the rear tail light panel was under way. Have you been able to locate all of the headlight buckets and grill parts?

The car looks relatively complete and rather rust free otherwise - or did you manage to just take well positioned photos that show otherwise?

I’m not sure if you have the windshield (windscreen) for the car, and from what a few others have told us there are very few Datsun 510/Bluebirds in the UK - but ournlast group order of windshields cake from Pilkington there in the UK, so it’s good to know that you have a local glass supplier if needed.

Hopefully you can retain the place to work on your new project, certainly keep us posted on your progress.

Welcome to the 510Realm.
