Pilkington Windshields - Easy and new Availability
Re: Pilkington Windshields - Easy and new Availability
I ordered one when the news arrived that Summit Racing was going to have them. I got onto a backorder list, and sat on it until today.
Just got an email from Summit telling me they’re no longer available. Bollocks, I even went to the trouble of getting a new Datsport seal in anticipation...
How many people got theirs? (And does anyone have surplus?!)

I got the same email from Summit saying NLA. So I sent an email to Pilkington directly to find out for sure.

Another sad puppy here. Same sad Summit news appeared yesterday. Boo hoo.
Re: Pilkington Windshields - Easy and new Availability
I got an email reply from Pilkington and they still show the 510 glass available. Although they are made when they receive an order with 10-12 weeks lead time.

I then asked for a US distributor and they said they would forward my info. Waiting to hear.

Re: Pilkington Windshields - Easy and new Availability
I spoke to Pilkington today. They said they cannot possibly give an ETA at this point for the next availability. They make the classic glass in a factory in Mexicali, Mexico, and they make thousands of part numbers there. If an order is put in to make a batch, it can take months before they get to that specific item.
They suggested I contact Glass Seekers in NY. They have a web request form to ask them to search for the part. I have not submitted that request yet.
So those of you wise ones who grabbed one when available, I may be seeking one of you to be gracious and sell me one if I cannot come up with one from another source. I have found a couple places supposedly showing them available, but I was hoping to get it from Summit to eliminate shipping costs.

Re: Pilkington Windshields - Easy and new Availability
The owner of the car I'm working on now is in the market for a front windshield. He would buy 2 and knows someone else that would take one. So does this help with a group buy from Pilkington. I see Summit doesn't list the 510 glass any longer. What are my Canadian options?
Re: Pilkington Windshields - Easy and new Availability
An as everyone like pictures. Here is the car that need glass. The quarters went on pretty well. Some dolly and filler work as to be expected.

Is that primer or the final coat? Battleship grey looks pretty good to me.

Re: Pilkington Windshields - Easy and new Availability
This is primer. And it looks a bit shiny so I think it was taken just after epoxy and before the 2k. For me its a bit of a milestone. After a ton of metal work and sandblasting and sanding and some filler work it's finally one color. This is for someone else and he has picked 905 red.
Re: Pilkington Windshields - Easy and new Availability
If I may make a suggestion before you spray the red. And it is what I have seen done before.
Depending on how "bright" is the 905 red color, or how bright the red is wanted to be, block sand the grey down real smooth and then put on a white primer. The white will cause the red to "pop". Plus the red will cover the white a little better than the grey.
