LZ24 with U60 L-Series closed chambered head, what kind of numbers?
Posted this on Ratsun but wanted to get feedback from both forums:
I came across a LZ24 with U60 L-Series closed chambered head that is for sale. Seller says it's been ported with bigger valves and cam but don't know what cam is in there other then it being a regrinded u20 cam. What kind of hp/torque numbers would be expected out of something like this? Right now I'm just running a L20B with dual mikuni 40's and wondering how much more different the LZ24 would feel. I know it's a bigger motor so it would have more torque but beyond that I'm not clear on what a setup like that puts down for power.

Hmm, the seller had it in a truck but I wonder if that was the 510 that it was in before. I wish there were more pictures.

Yeah I Sold it to the guy who had it in his truck.

So then how much horsepower does it make?

L20B on a good day makes about 93 hp. Scaling it up 20% to L24B would be 112.
Compression with closed chamber head and 2.4L displacement is 10.01 say another 6 hp.... under 120
Your side drafts and an unknown cam maybe 10-15 more........ over 130. (I think this realistically conservative)
Stock Z24 makes 130 torque @ 2,800. Which is sort of meaningless as it may continue at 128 before or after for a long way, but it does make it at low RPMs. An L head with better breathing ports, cam and side drafts will definitely make this and more higher up

just for reference, this [U67 Head on a Z24 bottom end] made about 180-190HP at one of the club's dyno days over a decade ago...

I thought the z2.4 was taller than a l20b and a 2.2. So how can it fit under the hood?
Re: LZ24 with U60 L-Series closed chambered head, what kind of numbers?
slot the motor mounts, to drop the motor down a bit
run a fiberglass hood, take out the middle support reinforcement section that would otherwise hit the valve cover
put a "power bulge" into the hood, or jack up the hood a bit with spacers.

40-50 hp more than a KA? there must be more to this than a U67 head, they're good but not that good.510rob wrote: ↑22 Aug 2021 02:57 just for reference, this [U67 Head on a Z24 bottom end] made about 180-190HP at one of the club's dyno days over a decade ago...

The height increase is on the top of the block. The Z24 is 2cm, 20mm or 3/4" taller than the L20B/Z20 and Z22 which are 2cm, 20mm or 3/4" taller than the L16/18.

Oh definitely Mike, it has a radically ported U67 casting, 48mm throttles & EFI on it, a cam that is somewhere around 305° and 0.550" lift, it has been bored out to about 89mm, has a big healthy exhaust after a Nissan Comp header, and get wrung out to 7krpm, etc...

Must mean 90mm or more as the Z24 is the same as the KA's at 89mm bore.
