Original 510 Front Struts/Brakes & 4-Speed Transmission

Post by cwd240z »

I have the original front strut assemblies that I removed from my '71 sedan. I have no idea what they're worth, if anything. Located near Dallas, TX. Local pick up only.

EDIT: I also have the original 4-speed transmission I pulled from my car. Anyone have any idea what that may be worth?

I scrapped 6 or 8 sets of 510 strut tubes last year..................they just aren't worth much. Most are going to 280ZX or even the T3 strut assemblies etc. Pull the 510 calipers & the ROTORS, as neither are available new or even rebuilt these days. Measure the rotors & if within spec, have value!

I figured that might be the case, but thought I'd see if anyone needed them before I scrap them as well. Thanks for the info.

some people might want to grab the brake calipers if the seals are still good.

I'd assume the seals are no good as they've been sitting dry for several years, but you never know.

PS and I found some NOS 510 caliper rebuild kits in my stash, if somebody needs them for these!

If you don't get any takers on the 4spd (again, I typically scrap these, as most are going to 5spd's), the 4spd bellhousing has value (save the shim with the bellhousing if you pull it!!), as it converts the later early 80's NAPZ or 240SX 5spd's to fit the L series Z car or 510! FYI the NAPZ requires NO MODS to the bellhousing, but the 240SX requires machine work to one of the front bearing holes in the bellhousing, to enlarge to fit the 240SX bigger bearing.

I think you perhaps mean the 71B bellhousing, and not the original off the 510 to do the conversions you mention?
The original 510 box, F4W63 has internals that can be used in some of the Roadster 4-speed box.
Different bellhousing for the R-16 but else the same box as the 510 i think.
And what about at least save the spring perches before scrapping struts?

Hainz tells the story of when he cleared out his garage he put three 510 four speeds out on the front lawn with a sign saying FREE. When he got home from work there were four.

The 26" long F4W63 4 speed was used in the 520 with J13 engines (the exception was the 610 F4W63 that were 31.5" long) and all L4 car engines till '81 ('80 in the US) when it was fitted to the Z20S engines* in the A10. (the S10 was a five speed) The 620 truck dropped them for '74 when it switched to the 71B.

* The Z series F4W63 first and second were 'taller' making it a 'close(r)' ratio transmission.
