280zx wheels

Post by muck »

I have a set of these rims and would like to run them on my 4-door 510. I have read the wheel + tire faq written by Kurt Hafer. If I understand correctly I could run these wheels with 195/60/R14 Azenis without throwing the speedo/odometer reading out of wack (at least not by much). Is this right?

I am planning on doing a 280zx struts with disc conversion on the front at some point but may run the stock 510 setup for now.

If that is going to be the same overall diameter as a stock 510 tire, then yes. You can plug in the numbers to Dave Lum's handy-dandy gearing calculations spreadsheet and see for yourself:

specifically here:

To be completely accurate you'd have to find the actual diameter of the Azenis. As with actual width versus the sidewall markings (195, 205, etc.), they do vary.

Thanks for the link Julian.
If I plugged the correct numbers in the difference is -0.3%. Pretty much bang on.

Based on a 165/78/13 stock 510 tire. Can anyone confirm this is the right stock size for my car.

Owner's manual says the original tire was a 5.60-13-4....whatever that is

had great success with either 185 60 14 or 195 60 14. you should be fine with either!

I am running those wheels on one of my dimes with the Falken Azenis RT615 tires 195-60-14 and the speedo is off about 2-3 miles per hour.

Good to know. Think I can live with that.
