Still need to figure out the alternator but before that, need to find what is causing this:

I've removed and re sealed the fuel pump block off, I've checked the torque on all the head studs, it's not the welch plug at the back of the head and I've replaced the rocker cover gasket.

Is that not where the oil goes up to the head for the camshaft oiling? I would suggest that the sealing there has failed and the oil is weeping out.

Assuming that is oil and not anti-freeze....

I agree with Keith - there is a vertical run from the main oil gallery in the side of the block, which runs up to the head between #2 & #3, to oil the cam towers, which then fills the cam's internal drillings with oil, which then oil the rockers, etc...

various head gaskets address sealing that port with various ways, some better, some not better...

Essentially it's a rolling shell with a broken L18/W53 (sped in thread) in pieces in boxes. All the nice bolt-on parts for the engine come with it, along with the 5 speed stubby, LSD etc. I do have a spare L18 complete (run when parked) L18 block and W53 peanut head. Transportation might be tricky but that can be figured out if someone wants it. DM me if interested, no rush to sell but it is time to draw a line and move on.

I think you just need to get it drivable and you'll change your mind. With our projects being dormant for so long it's easy to forget why we got into them in the first place. BUT as soon as you drive it your feelings for it renew! You've come such a long way with this bad boy that it would be a shame to let it go now. This is a rare beast that would be very hard to come by again. If you were stateside I'd consider dipping into my 401k for this thing. Probably be a much better investment, too!

It's about $2000 for a 20ft container from the UK to the USA. The car has a UK version of a title, all taxes paid this end so is legal to export.

The engine is trash, so it will never be what I had spent 8 years dreaming of driving if I put the stock L18 in and now with a small family justifying the time and money is becoming harder. If someone wants it, we can do a deal and I can help with getting it on a boat. If not, maybe it'll be another 8 years sat in the garage :?

I would stick the running L18 engine in it. And enjoy driving! Would be a bummer to see the car go after all this work.

BaT don't want to list my car

Not sure what is next for it, as much as I've tried to get motivated to spend more and finish it, it's just not happening for me at the moment.

To be continued...

They wouldn't list it even with no reserve? I think it could do OK there... it is hard to get that large of an audience and there are a lot of 510 enthusiasts that watch 510 auctions there.

No. They did not want it! Maybe because it doesn’t drive and shipping might put people off bidding. I don’t know but I’m open to offers if anyone wants a good rolling shell.
