Re: Blue '71 Project
Lots of nice work going on here keep up the progress!
It's always funny seeing people try 7j +0 wheels and seeing them stick out like that, reminds me how much i pulled my fenders haha. I can fit 7.5j -6 on the rear and 7j +0 up front with a little room to spare but im also pretty lowered without any camber correction, it takes some work to keep everything smooth and not 100% sure you can do it on a 4 door but maybe its something to look into if you want to go that route.

Finally found some time to work on the car after having to replace a bent rod in my Acura after it sucked up some water during a heavy storm.
Started prepping the 280zx front struts for coil overs by cutting off the spring perches

Re: Blue '71 Project
Started getting the engine bay ready for primer and did some rough body work where the battery tray once was.
Worked on the trunk a bit more, getting it ready for primer also. The first pic was taken before I sandblasted it, it had some pretty heavy surface rust.
This is after cleaning it up some more with a wire wheel and a grinder, then a coat of self etching primer.
Also had to beat out the back panel a bit, as it had been pretty dented in pretty good at some point in its life. It needs more work, but it's much better than it was.
Then I masked the car off and pushed it up by the door so I could spray the primer on it

Re: Blue '71 Project
Welded up a crack in the edge of the hood and that small hole in the hood bracing I had forgotten about before I primed it. Then started to block the engine bay..

Re: Blue '71 Project
Got a sample of original paint code, 567 "Nissan Blue" and shot a test panel and the hood hinges. I think it'll look pretty good
The engine bay is ready to be primed and blocked one more time, then hopefully I can shoot some paint on it!

Re: Blue '71 Project
It is a nice colour - car will look great when completed.
It's good to see some cars still in their original colour.
Thanks for the update.

Looking great!! Did you repair the front rocker with new metal or just layered some weldings on?
Re: Blue '71 Project
Thanks, yeah I think this color blue looks really nice. The interior was originally a teal color which I think would be really cool too, but haven't decided if I'll go that route.
Thanks! I cut out the rusted areas and replaced with new metal.

I also omitted and welded up the heater holes in the same fashion- saying the same thing. Only I didn’t and here I am 15 years later loving that car buy hating myself on those cold spring and fall mornings with no heat!
Projects coming along well.

Re: Blue '71 Project
No picture worthy update yet, just shot another coat of primer on the engine bay and hood after doing a lot of blocking and fixing some more places. So it still looks like the earlier pics when I primed it. This will be the last primer coat, I'll block it one last time then shoot some blue on it!
Haha yeah I could see it taking a while until I actually do it, but one day it'll happen. The car stays at my shop about an hour from where I live, so it probably won't be driven just a whole lot for a while anyway...so I'll just avoid driving it on those cold days.

Finally made some more progress on the car over the holidays. Cleaned up the front crossmember and painted it. Also shot some paint on the engine bay, front valance, and hood. It's the original 567 blue.
