I spent most of the early 1980's in Australia, thrashing around in the bush in 1600s. Back then we treated them as disposable....wreck one, get another one, swap a few parts and continue. I wish I could have a few of them back now. Since I made Canada my home in the mid 90s I have had 3 510's but until the last few years, I haven't had the time or space to take on a serious project. My skill set is limited to being handy (and trying to be patient), I have no formal technical skills or automotive training. I plan to learn along the way, so please send your constructive feedback. <br/>
The dream for this car is to be the car I wanted when I was a kid. Hopefully it will be a sturdy street legal play car that is at home on the track or on the local Okanagan back roads.
When I bought the car it was partially stripped out rolling shell and a few boxes of bits. The seller told me that the motor and transmission were stock. By happy accident, the motor turned out to be an L20B with V912 head. The transmission is a 5 speed with some mysterious ratios and the boxes of bits have some fun stuff like headers and 45 Webers on a manifold with linkages. This is great news for me as I plan to run L series. Otherwise, the car is reasonably complete, although none of the parts that were stripped prior to purchase were bagged/ labelled, so the nut and bolt part will be a pain.
