May 5th 510 Day

Post by datzenmike »

Happy 510 Day. Who would have guessed that 46 years ago buying a 7 year old, barely known about Datsun? for $50 would have such an effect on my life? It was owned by a co worker and I didn't even want it at the time but he wanted $50 and was desperate. Glad I didn't just give him a loan... he was unreliable and wouldn't have paid it back. First import car ever. First 4 cylinder I ever owned too. I drove it for maybe half a year and was impressed by it's ability to handle the muddy rutted side roads I lived on. It wasn't fast but it was fun and directly led me to buying a new '76 B-210 and that led to owning a 521... and so on. So here's to the 510 on 510 Day!!!

Good story Mike!

Yup, been playing with Datsun's since I bought my first one, a wagon, in 1969, then, my brand new 1972 wagon. The salesperson introduced me to racing, so not long after a used 1972 2 door came along and my racing years began. Then, we got a 1970 4 door auto for my wife.

Lastly my 1973 which I bought after and unfortunate crash of my 72' on the Squamish Highway.

My 510's have taken me on many an adventure out on old logging roads, dirt trails and snow covered back roads, and for the most part, never missing a beat, putting over a 100,000 miles on each wagon.

That I did NOT end up with a 1970 RoadRunner was meant to be, and the rest they say; IS HISTORY.

Happy 510 Day all!

Happy 510 day to everyone! I bought my 510 new in 1972. I bought it on October 12 1972,the build date is 3/72. It turned out that I got married to my beautiful wife on the same date two years later. We moved to Abbotsford in 1978 with our two year old son. Years later my son started driving the 510. He was going to collage in Abbotsford and decided to walk there since we lived close by. He parked in the driveway and canceled the insurance. One night some a$#hole decided to steal the stereo and sub woofer that was in the trunk. He smashed the passenger side window and took the papers from the glove box and put them on the passenger seat and lit them on fire. We had just flared and repainted the car a few months earlier. Long story short it took a couple of years for me to gather all the parts and get it on the road again. Since then I have continuously been working on it including a KA swap. It still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.
