Hey Byron, did you talk to Andy about his stainless?
I'm wondering if the stainless you have is the same as his.
His stainless is thin wall and light.
I was at KMS today and they sell stainless tubing now, but it was super heavy...heavier than the aluminized stuff they had.

What I'll be using is .065" wall.
Andy will use .049. However, I could not get a hold of the stuff for this project, I haven't found a source. Is the weight a big difference? Well, maybe a pound or two, not enough for me to get worried about, and cracking at any welded join will be much less of an issue with .065 wall. For my intended use, I'm sure what I have will be fine.
Is it heavy? I can easily hold up the 10' length I bought with two fingers, I don't think it'll be an issue. This system will definitely out last the car!

I was amazed how light the stainless system is, and the heavier wall I would think would be a benifit as you say, for resisting cracking over time.

That's why we wear earplugs. I know you thought my car was quieter than Byron's, but, after a 6 hour day in the car, my ears still ring even after wearing the earplugs.

I don't know about what KMS carries but their stock is heavy, I know Andy's stuff was light.
For me It needs to be as light as possible, my car is fat!
I may just bite the bullet and drop it off at specialty, their exhaust work is out of this world.

I am just throwing this out there but has anyone researched the possibilty of fabbing up a titanium exhaust. I don't think you would hae to worry about breaking or weight at all. Only things to worry about are cost, and welding. I have kind of researched it just to see but it is hard to find lengths of tubing of titanium, let alone mandrel bends. Stainless will work out just great though. I eventually want to try making some headers out of stainless as a project. Welding stainless isn't too bad I have done it, I am sure it would be optimal to fill the tube with argon, I don't think it is totally necessary. I had a piece of titanium and tried welding it but titanium is where you do need a double shield.

If you can't back-purge the stainless steel, here is another option - http://www.solarflux.com/

Hmmm...
You know Keith, it may be just all the blood pounding through the veins in 6 hours is making the ringing sound eh ! I really think your car is quieter than Byrons, but, then you have more of the interior in than him I believe. Mindyou, I think my car is too loud now so perhaps I'm not the best judge of that too!bertvorgon wrote:That's why we wear earplugs.
