Window Squeeges

Post by DryHeat »

I am finally replacing all of the rubber on my wagon (minus the rear window rubber) and I need some advise. I ordered a complete kit from DatsunLandSoCal and so far everything is working great.

The old outer window squeeges are stapled in place between the chrome trim and a strip of metal. How can I attach the new ones? Any ideas will be appreciated.

1) you can $$$pend for new chrome strips
2) replacement rubber strips from DLsocal are avail (they were before) and restaple on.
3) cheap :!: =buy the longest wiper blades (~24") trim the backing and to length and use black RTV to attach. if done clean & careful, it comes out nice.

I just did this, so here goes.

-Use a dremel or some other tool to cut the backs of the staples.
-The inner metal strip will not be re-used. I had to severely bend/roll it to pull out the rusty staples, even after being cut.
-get the new rubber strip as straight as possible, this is important.
-check the length and trim if necessary.
-attach the new rubber to the chrome strip with the included metal clips. 6 per side
-Press onto top of door using original metal clips inside chrome strip.

Mine was a perfect fit, hope yours is too.

Metal Clips? I guess I need to call Mike at Datsunlansocal and let him know I didn't get the clips ... using clips sure sounds alot easier that staples. I was able to get the staples removed without bengin them too much.

Thanks for all the info gentlemen.

ah im in the same postition... i didnt see any metal clips either?? im havin a hellavu time gettin the old staples out. I was thinking of either taking it to a upholstry shop to re-staple them on(has to go through the metal) or just not using staples and RTV gluing it on.. any other suggestions:D

Hey guys... I heard that someone purchased ones for the 300zx
brand new and they have everything attached. Only problem
was that the length was longer. With a little work cutting and
forming the square end it looked pretty good.
Anyone else hear of this?

^actually yes.
i grabbed some used from the JY and the metal was a PITA to trim down.
i tested it out on the wagon and it came out OK. no vibration and keeps the water out.

being used it was not as tight of a fit as id want, but new may work better. i actually have it on the 2dr now because the PO welded the mirror mount to the frame and the trim job from the wagon is ~1/2" short. close enough for now!

It's time for me to replace my squeegees as well and my thought was to see if a 240Z squeegee would fit. I've owned both but never took a close lok at them to see how close they are. Replacements are readily available with chrome and rubber attached so it would be interesting to know if anyone has tried this on their cars. I've heard a pair is only around $100 so it's a great alternative $$ wise.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I recently pulled some from a 300zx (mid-late eighties) and cut them down to fit. Work pretty good, not super tight, but better than nothing. Plus, you can't beat $3 at the JY.

I like the 300z idea but for some reason, the 240Z stuff looks really close in shape and size. I'm going to see if Specialty Engineering has any spare parts kicking around to compare them and I'll get back to this thread afterwards. I'm ultimately looking for something clean and tight fitting that still retains a stock look.

Any update? My car is missing the squeegees so I'm really interested in this thread. Wish there was a way to subscribe like in VBulletin based forums.

Unfortunately I haven't gotten around to trying the 240Z squeeges to see how close they are. Hopefully sometime next week I can get down to Specialty and see if they have a spare set I can borrow to test fit and compare. I'll let you know what I come up with.
