Re: Z24 Value today?

I daily drove a '71 521 Datsun truck in the mid '70s for about 8 years in Durham Region. Eventually had fiberglass front fenders but every year I'd have to go over it to keep it air tight to keep the heat in in the winter. Yeah I added some stuff because you never know what might click with you or s...

Re: WTB: Oil Pan

My info shows it on drawings for the '72 and on 510 and used then on on the L18s and L20Bs. Also easy enough to remove and forget to put back on. Yes, on the L24 and on z cars and zx. Looks longer and there is a second one down the left side of the block. The 810/Maxima has just the L shaped one on ...

Re: WTB 510 header

I have the discrete 4 into 2 and it has welded up air injection holes.

Not mine....

From Oz. Note the notch missing between 2 and 3. Much later 810 L20B. Has cast in provisions for EGR tubes or perhaps an AIS (air injection system) like the 720 Z series engines.

Re: Z24 Value today?

Z24s were only available in the 720 truck and the D21 and WD21 Hardbody and Pathfinder. The Z series 'cross flow' heads are terrible for flow so no. No one is going to want to put one on an L20B or anything smaller. The combustion chambers are immense in size and on an L20B you would have 7.27 compr...

This indent?

Doesn't seem in impact the flow much.

This one. Never seen the likes of it before. Oz maybe?

Re: WTB 510 header

There were two castings that were different from each other with one being more desirable I think. https://i.imgur.com/V5o9o8x.jpg The one on the left separates the 1 & 4 from the 2 & 3. Firing order is 1342 (or 3421) so this neatly separates adjacent firing cylinders as much as possible and...

Re: WTB: Oil Pan

Hello there, I need a 510 oil pan, one that keeps oil inside. If yours leaks it's likely from over tightening the bolts (naturally I don't mean you) to stop it leaking which distorts the holes into a dimple. It pinches the gasket only around the holes and leads to more tightening with little effect...

Re: WTB 510 header

Unless you lost yours or have a cam and side drafts, keep the cast iron header on your L16. They will support up to 150 HP before a header might improve the flow. Headers have a shelf life they don't last and rust out, they never fit perfectly, flange gaskets often leak, they radiate more under hood...

Re: L18 build

Well 2mm is rally 1mm all the way around so only 0.040" removed. I believe replacement oversize pistons come in 1mm over, so twice that should be fine.

Beware there are two Z22 pistons, you want the ones from the 720 truck.

Best you confirm all this math.

Re: L18 build

If you needed to fool an inspection then you could bore the L16 and put the rotating parts from an L18 in. Otherwise just rebuild the L18 as is. Datsun rotating parts are individually balanced very well so a rod from one engine will swap into another without worry. Here's another combination.... Bor...

Re: L18 build

I guess using L16 rod is to get a longer rod on the L18 crankshaft but this pushes the L18 pistons out of the bore so they need the tops milled almost 3mm to fit. Much easier to just bore the L16 block to 85mm and fit the L18 crank/rods and pistons essentially making an L18 wearing an L16 block. L18...

Re: WTB dogleg 5 speed FS5W63A transmission from 200sx

That's the weak point. Every gear but 4th (which isn't a gear at all) even reverse, has to go through the countershaft. Any load tries to push the countershaft and the mainshaft apart and exerts a lot of pressure on that bearing. A larger bearing would help but you are limited by the distance betwee...
