Re: Starter issues
If the power cable is 6 gauge from the battery all the way to the starter, that is too small and can't move enough current. Usually the battery cables just in the engine compartment are 4 gauge. I used 0 or 00 fine-strand welding cable to do mine. It should probably be at least 2 gauge for that leng...

Re: Which Rear Camber And Toe Product?
I have the Datsport on my race car, and have contemplated the Byron brackets for my street car. One thing different in my understanding is the Byron brackets and probably the Maddat version only provide adjustment on the inner, the outer remains stock bracket. Pros/cons of this are not something I f...

Tried to attach a picture, yellow triangle as noted. Click on the triangle and it says: Error Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached. Tried to attach the screen shot, but no go. File size only 50kB. I have also had extremely slow response on this site for the last month or more. It's lik...

Re: Datsun/Subaru R180- What if?
Not exactly, and I guess I need more backstory. My vintage race 510 with L18 currently has a 4.11 I believe with a Quaife ATB in it. That's what prior owner told me and I have not been in it to check yet. Will do the verification this winter. I want to get a steeper gear in it. My friend who races a...

Datsun/Subaru R180- What if?
OK, I have been ruminating about rear differentials that last couple days, looking for higher (numerically) options for the race track. Not interested in trying to find a Subaru clutch or Torsen R180 diff with a ratio I don't want, so theorizing a different combo. Subaru 4.44 ring and pinion set Qua...

Re: SR20DET Turbo Oil Drain fitting & JBC Coachwerks R&P Interference
Weld on an aluminum fitting to shorten how far it extends? That fitting you show above may work since it's the forged shape and short radius. I have used that type (-8) for valve cover outlets on L-series. I can't speak to whether BSPT as I have no experience with the SR, but it most likely is. To g...

Re: L20b installation question
Idle? What rpm? I've seen comments before that 20 is adequate at idle. What's the max, or is 30 the max you are seeing?
My race car (shimmed spring, hi flow pump, L18) makes about 40 at idle.

Re: 510 Oil pan removal
So, to answer my own question and provide future reference fodder, it is done. I used some long old headbolts as hangers (per recommendation from a Bluebird list member) for the crossmember after supporting the engine from the strut towers and strut bar. I did have to drop the steering center link f...

510 Oil pan removal
Hello everyone. I am going to remove my oil pan from my vintage race car to take a look at the internals. To complicate things it has a DP Racing large capacity oil pan. I would prefer not to remove the entire engine/trans from the car. Is it feasible to support the engine from above and drop the cr...
