Option 1 – 1st 2.823, 2nd 1.976, 3rd 1.479, 4th 1.200, 5th 1.00
Option 2 – 1st 2.348, 2nd 1.601, 3rd 1.296, 4th 1.200, 5th 1.00
wow - the gear ratios here on this listing are pretty close (with the exception of 4th gear)... do you know the name or how to contact the UK company?? thanks!

I know Troy well, actually have one of his dogbox transmissions... it is a fantastic gearbox but I haven't been able to manage the rev matching required on the downshifts and pretty much break the shear pins inside every time I run it (so now it sits strapped to the floor of my trailer). Man though... if you are up for the challenge, it is an amazing gearbox to drive... especially when you can up shift through the gears with a tiny lift off the throttle before choosing the next gear.

Sadly, i am looking for a more traditional shifting experience. That is why i am on the hunt for the USA made Option 2 gearbox so that i can meet the B sedan specifications for vintage races.

Thanks for posting that Mike. I was being lazy so here is my penance; I dug out the old Motorsport Schematic catalog and scanned the relevant pages...

Where are you located??

I've had & sold two of these Option boxes over the years. Les Canaday bought one of them. went in a BS resto build. Rumor has it, he also acquired the majority of the Datsun/Nissan Comp Option box PARTS from Nissan, when they moved to Tennessee......?? That said, it is a VERY expensive way to go, but if it is what you want, it is what you want!

As mentioned above, Elite Gearbox in the UK offers a reproduction gear set. We have tried to use two sets, both had inherent issues, that Elite does NOT acknowledge. We struggled with both & finally gave up. Troy Ermish is the USA distributor for Elite. He has figured out WHAT the inherent problem is & makes the corrections/modifications when he builds a trans. You would have to ask him if he would sell a modified set, but I think he wants the full job, so he can manage it himself (because of the problems etc). Again, Elite does NOT acknowledge the problem.......BEWARE!

We ran rebuilt STOCK 77-83 280Z/280ZX 5speeds up thru approximately 250hp in our 240Z's. Once we developed more hp, we were wearing them out/breaking them, so we tried Elite, then moved on to something else. Rebuild kits are available, but gears, hubs & shift forks are NLA NLS, so getting hard to find. Otherwise, the stock gearboxes are pretty stout!

Sam Neave in N Carolina (??) builds a proprietary gearbox, based on a production 5spd, mixing & machining some of the gears to suit. I believe Steve Bonk out of Chicago runs his gearboxes............??

I have a STOCK Roadster 2.0L 5spd if interested. It WAS fully/freshly rebuilt, but the numbnutz left it outside, so it got some water in it. The lower gears are oxidized, but we think they would clean up nice with some light GLASSBEAD work (NOT aluminum oxide etc!). PM me if interested!

Located in Califonia, the Bay Area (central to northern California)... if you have contact information for any of the folks you mentioned (like Les) who picked up the Nissan parts and boxes, message me... would love to reach out to them. I am still in the midst of a 9-10 month process. Just found the carburetors I was looking for... last remaining challenge after the option 2 box is the paint scheme. Already decided its a non-BRE theme...

This is a shitty gear set for anything but racing. Taking off in first in the competition box will be like taking off in second gear in most stock boxes.

Are you building or perhaps Troy Ermish is building for you? He just posted today of a new BS build, where the owner is looking for ideas for a paint scheme! 8)

Les Cannaday is Classic Datsun in Vista, California 92083 760-940-6365 les@classicdatsun.com. He apparently acquired a large portion of the Datsun Comp parts......?? Be prepared $$$$$$$$$$$

What carbs did you find? My ex BS car has a very early production intake that does not have branding, with Dellorto carbs & a hand made hard rod accelerator linkage up from the bottom............near the header! Original owner/builder said he bought parts from BRE, but Pete Brock said "Carb set is not mine!" I'm hoping the car goes BACK to the original owner, as he says he wants it! 8)
