If in fact the "kits" are NLA NLS, you should be able to find the bearings individually, by the part # stamped on them. The seals should also have a part # (or dimensions) cast into them. We often go this route for other classic car trans parts! I know, a pain to wait until disassembled, but that's the classic car world sometimes! The synchro rings MIGHT be the same as the other Datsun models, so come up with the OEM part # & compare to other Datsuns..........

The oil seal for the bell housing was too small. Other than that everything else was tits.

Don't forget the tapered counter bearing. Bottom right below...

This is the weakest link on this, and the 71B on the left. When power is applied, the main and counter shafts try to move apart. This bearing has to handle that load. If transmission growls in every gear but 4th it's the counter bearing. Note how much larger the 71B bearing is.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if that tapered cone bearing was the same as the inner front wheel bearing? Nah..... What are the chances?

But there might be a wheel bearing that works somewhere.... just saying...

That's the weak point. Every gear but 4th (which isn't a gear at all) even reverse, has to go through the countershaft. Any load tries to push the countershaft and the mainshaft apart and exerts a lot of pressure on that bearing. A larger bearing would help but you are limited by the distance between the main and countershafts. In this case it's 63mm, hence the FS5W63A.

To reduce the wear, never pass or climb steep hills that require full throttle, in 5th. Same with high winds at high speeds. Better to use 4th which avoids the counter bearing.
