Couple of questions on 510 springs

Post by skippyelwell »

I have ordered 2 split collar clamps for the stock 510 struts, does lowering the perches by 1.5" lower the front end by 1.5" or is it less?

Until I can afford the coil over kit that I want I thought I would cut the rear springs so I could get the car on the road in the mean time, this is my guesstimate on where I think I should cut to lower the rear 1.5"

Any advice or recommendations?
Thanks,
Chris

Just lowering the perches by 1.5 in the front should lower the car by 1.5. You should be careful though as you may run out of suspension travel on bumps. That is why most people shorten the struts. In the back you may just want to take off a bit at a time till you get to the desired ride height. Stock 510 springs are pretty soft by shortening them you will have a good chance of running out of travel. If it is not going to be driven hard you shouldn't have much to worry about.
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?

if you go to low you may need to trim down the bump stops in the rear spring pockets

BUTTERS is right, trim 3/4" off those rear bump rubbers, this is done to prevent bottoming which is NOT a good thing. As you will still have a relatively soft suspension, depending on how you drive and tire loading, in conjunction with a bad bump, could have you hitting the bump rubber.

and if you cut down the front bumps your sway bar will hit the tc rods.
