we decided to two tone the dash for the classic look. what do you think. or should we go back to all black. and i still need to find room for one more gauge.

Hey here! That's genius! And I like the two-tone look for a '68 dash.

he decided he wanted centre exit exhaust.

and then i trimmed up some pieces of some unknown '50s car front bumper i had kicking around to come up with a split rear bumper.

Excellent metal work, dash looks extremely cool, and the rest of the fab work, well, exquisite would not be too far off!

I just cruised through the whole thread again. Man it feels good that this car is getting done. Three times in it's life it became a "lost" project, and those often end badly. Yet this car has made it through so many owners and stages of different dreams. It's so cool that it got saves... and one day I will still own a 68 2dr :D

I love the custom dash Dan. Great work. And keeping it the stock two tone really does make it cool. How's the pad that you have?

Keep up the good work. Think we'll see it this year on the road?

made some brackets to mount 3 point seatbelt. I'm going to mount the retractors behind the interior panel below the 1/4 window for the fronts and in trunk bellow the parcel shelf for the rear.

these are the fronts, to add strength by tying into door pillar. there are 2 brackets each side. upper and lower.

now for the lower mount point. i welded a nut to some flat bar, then drilled a hole in the inner rocker to pass the nut through and welded it in place. then put grommet in hole.

and now for the rear belts. i made a couple brackets each side, the lower welded to wheel tube and the top bolted to the parcel shelf (rear package tray) or what ever you want to call it. then because we raised the shelf for speaker clearance. i made another bracket inside the car that attaches to the captured nut in the sail panels. (I'm assuming for original belts?) this bracket holds the seatbelt piece that allows the belt to slip through.

I will hopefully work on installing the dash later today and heater unit. (I'm going to use the later heater with the scroll fan). and probably cross over the driver side heater hose next to the passenger side for clearance of a pos. sr swap down the road.we did a lot of things to help this swap later. like fuel return lines, electric fans, larger exhaust, fusebox and relays etc.

The magic part you need between the late style heater core and the firewall is the 69 dump/vent. This will adapt the spare firewall cowl intake to the round hole in the heater box. 70 and up cars have a round vent in the firewall. I detailed this part in my 68 3 on the tree build when I installed the late style heater core in that car. You have the same exersize.

ah yes, I read your heater swap post last year and received said part from Jordan last year. :D . however I had to swap the lever from the right side to the left side of the flapper valve. so I could connect it to my 68 controls. Im also going to use a generic cable controlled 90 deg. heater valve as my original is far to corroded. this will also aid in the re routing of the drivers side heater hose. thanks for your detailed heater rebuild Byron

and then we got the dash in. but i only have one rubber defrost hose to attach to the defrost vent. so i will have to fab up something
IMG_2370.jpg

and also blasted and painted the dash filler piece its the one piece style for early dash.
