Hey Wilse. Thank you!

Mine might be slightly different as I've cut out the inner arch and had new ones fabricated to make room for the over fenders and wider wheels.

Not sure why the quality has degraded but they're done like this:

This end cap was made up as we saw it in the workshop manual

I can't remember if this is the way it was done at the factory, but it seemed the best way to do mine.

Any pictures or a build thread of yours?

That’s perfect thanks. I think I’ve been trying to over complicate it trying to tie in the inner guard lip into the rocker. No build thread yet, it’s something I’ve got to get onto..

Anyone still interested after 7 years? It's so close now, last few bits to finish off and tidy up now and then I need to have 2 new door skins fabricated (oddly cheaper than buying used)
Then I have to wait for the filler and sanding loop before paint.
Dare I say about 2 months and it'll be done...

We look forward to your updates, glad to see it coming along. It’s been quite a trek and I know many of us are following. Keep the updates coming.

Fabricate door skins, as you talking outer door skins?

Byron.

I'm loading the truck up and making the 280 mile drive up to the North East on Saturday to drop off a load of parts, check on progress and discuss paint. I'll take some pictures while there.

Outer door skins yes. Mine were dented with about 2 inches of filler in place and corroded on both lower corners and a little across the top where the chrome trim sits and then pitting over the whole skin. Usual 510 rust

I made the 550 odd miles round trip up to see my car last weekend and check on progress and make sure they're still committed to finishing the thing.

There's probably 2 weeks work left in it if they crack on.

I'm not sure if they're going to paint it now as the agreed price has jumped up £2000 in the almost 2 years they've had it but that's an argument for another day.

I didn't like how the old fuel cell was sitting in the spare wheel well, and as that was rusting out I thought it'll be best to get them to cut it all out and re do the trunk floor.

There's a frame underneath welded to the support beam and chassis rails to hold it up.

And while the last little pieces of fabrication are being done it was time for some of this:

I think it could actually be back home this year... 569 days away so far.

Looking good. Are you going to remove the rain gutter trim to check rust underneath?? Im glad I did on mine, I have a bit to repair on the metal in those spots..

I always used a can opener to pry up the gutter trim. It left some small marks and dents I had to repair. But it worked. Then I saw this video. Yesterday I tried it and it worked like a charm.

Good advice, thank you! I asked and was told they have already removed them and were 'surprisingly good, considering the rest of the car'

Image

You can see this side is removed above.

Some parts in primer below.

Bit of a process this:

ImageUntitled

You can see the original white paint, then the car was orange before blue and back to orange.

ImageUntitled

I'm undecided on colour. Do I go with the original white, or the 918 orange. The previous orange (slightly darker than 918) or a nice clean white?

I’m digging the orange, but colour can be very personal choice...great to see it getting ready for paint!
