Just for Fun

Afternoon World!

I hope all you CDN’s have had a good long weekend; weather was a mixed bag, sure cool and wet today. I hope the Memorial Day holiday is good for our brothers and sisters to the South next weekend.

My brother surpassed another birthday yesterday and he and I reminisced about the “good old days”. He is 5 years younger than I.

I know there are some on this site that are in our age group, growing up in a simpler time. Yah, I know, when you’re a kid life is simpler, but as I see so many really young people caught up in technology, no real outdoor life, and living in FEAR of so many things, it hit my brother and I how lucky we were.

We had over 35 square miles as our territory in Richmond, B.C., able to literally disappear for a day, till dusk. We had no street lights so “Be Home before dark!” was the mantra.

We did not have to worry about the Clifford Olson’s of the World, something that bore down on my wife and me when our kids came along.

At any rate, here are a few, I like to think funny, things that reflect how my brother and I saw the World in the late 50’s and 60’s growing up at the edge of Post war Richmond, and a few "observations" of our modern life.. That we did have some dangerous things we did, playing on an old ship, rafting along the Fraser River, we learned our limits and made our decisions. We did have one tragedy with a friend losing his life, which still haunts my brother and I to this day. I like to think that lesson made us evaluate what the hell we were doing when things got sketchy, and make good decisions, as much as a 12 year old can.
