I'm going to think in that time period...exact...not sure. This was before my digital camera so that
time period for me was film, which is in a massive tub of albums. There I could figure the date as my albums are all lineal through time and events.

A great snapshot( pun intended) of years of amazing friends and racing.

Here is the same car in a different venue, upper pic, at Barnes Lake.

I have spent the last two days testing the car.

fresh fuel in, so I can boost with confidence now. Adjusted valves, they were loose.
Adjusted carb a few times, went to Specialty and had Andy listen to a "noise" and check valve train,
all good.

Took it for a good spin today and some traffic , all good there. Adjusted my idle again, I think I am there, trying to balance RPM with the idle circuit only.

I have turned boost down a bit, sneak up on it, what with the higher compression, still breaking motor in 10 - 12 lbs feels freakin' awesome so if I can get back 14, with out breaking traction, life will be good. Need to get those fresh tires on ASAP.

Motorcycle track day tomorrow, so Specialty getting the bikes ready, I think I will stop by on the way to Byron's, then I can come in the other way and not hit Cloverdale and that Frigg'in bridge in rush hour.

Took my bus out of winter storage the last week, because i was selling it. So i had to unload my 510 in to the garage.
The bus is som something me and my father built 25 year's ago, like a motorhome. Have owned it since 1997.
The 510 is a street car that i built 30 years ago. It is not a BRE replica, clone or whatever, it is just a inspirational build.

Afternoon World!

Wow, middle of June already, how did that happen......

Last week I finally got my tires mounted up!!! Also we checked the head torque, all good there, nothing moved. The compression was checked too, all four at 185 PSI. Up from my 165 on my old motor....yikes.

With the car on the hoist it was looked at again underneath, no leaks, clamps all tight, etc.

I still have the idle issue, will be getting a smaller idle jet this coming weekend.

I gave the car a good shot of boost, it is still at 10 PSI, so I will now go to 12 PSI and see how that is. That will likely be it on this higher compression motor. 10 is pretty good so 12 should be awesome. I must admit that with the larger turbo, it is not as violent as the last motor, and I am ok with that. I don't want to get to a point where it breaks traction, like it did in the December testing, albeit on cold tires and pavement.

I have only driven on the new tires back to my garage but that initial feel was pretty damn good!

The Goodyear tires in the picture are for Collin's Formula Atlantic car, so light. The fronts are the same size we used to run on the back of my and Tracey's 510's.

The Suzuki is my friend Steve's. It has been a 10 year re-build journey after he was hit in an accident, as an innocent rider on the road, by another sport bike coming the other way who lost control on a sweeper corner. That person was killed and Steve has had to go through a decade of re-hab and of course re-building the bike. All that aluminum you see he has machined and made himself!! A work of Art. It is close to being on the road again.

That RX-3 tube frame has been a long term project at Specialty, for a customer. Andy is just about done with his part in the project.

That's about it for now, I plan to be at Mission for Specialty's first road race of the season, Andy has turned the boost up on the Miata, so that will wake up the V-8 gang for sure.

I may take the 510 out for the day, seeing as it is middle of June and weather looks good. I'm done with traffic drives in my car and at least my route to Mission is not traffic light hell.

Cleaned up around the Sedan on the rotisserie so I can get back on her and ordered some new rocker arms for the L20B so I can finish it up.

Wow...summer has gone by...hardly drove the 510, just seemed to never work out!

I got my fan issue sorted, it was just that the fuse holder had built up resistance due to corrosion and turned
itself into a toaster.

A few weeks ago I attended the Induction ceremony for Tracey into the Motorsports hall of fame, I did take the 510. I was the only offshore car there, everything else was Detroit iron. I was able to set my boost up to 12 PSI, which if it can run at that with the higher compression will be just FINE.

Still tuning the car, leaned out the idle and primary jet, now just need to go for non-traffic drive where I can watch the A/F through the primary range, then of course some good pulls in 4th and 5th.

Weather window is winding down, the insurance ends on Nov.4th, maybe see what long range might be and put a bit more on. Would love to have it jetted and ready to go for next season.

Morning World...or at least the few that still come to look.

As yesterday, here in Vancouver, it was a very nice sunny day. I decided to put another 6 months insurance on the 510,
thinking I would take if for a drive yesterday, check the jetting and then maybe get a few days if we get no road salt or brine.

I pulled my car cover off, car all shiny in the morning light, thinking this was going to be a FINE DAY!

Snuggling into my bucket seat I hit the key. It cranked but kinda sounded funny. Crud! I cranked again and opened the throttle a tad......it fired..just..and ran so rough, like when you have a cylinder head leak and a cylinder cannot fire.

Now, I knew that was not the problem..engine died...cranked again..ran so rough...like multiple cylinders. Crud, F'#$@%*....I pulled the plugs, wet with fuel..what the hell...brand new too. Put plugs back in and crank again...fires but so, so rough.

I phone Andy, he suggest a few things, pull the valve cover, make sure nothing amiss there. Check ignition wires, ends ok, coil connections..good...Dizzy wire connections good. Fire again...crap.

Andy says bring the spark plug wire harness and he builds me new harness, needed it anyhow after 40+ years.

Back to garage and same thing....THEN...we both remember one day in early summer when I went to the shop and the car ran rough when starting it there. We popped the air box off and fuel came running out..HOLY CRUD. Now, then we thought maybe one of us did not tighten the fuel clamp at the carb.

So, I crack the hold down screws and fuel comes rushing out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the hell. I check the clamps (4) and they are all TIGHT. I then wipe down all the fuel, which evaporates quickly, thank goodness. What a fire risk if the engine and manifold were HOT!

I then decided to hit the fuel pump on and WATCH what might be going on. I had pulled the short hose off the make sure it was not torn in some fashion, all was good. As I watched in the low light in the garage, I saw fuel running/dripping out of the actual BRASS hose bib that goes into the carb!!!!!!!!!!!! It has loosened up over some 40 years of use. It has been random I think depending on temperature. It ever so slightly wiggles..THAT HAS BEEN my fuel issue. Looking back in my log book I see notes where starting was harder...and now....I see maybe why my A/F has been richer. It was very cold in the garage, temp was 45F.

I will be taking the carb top to Andy and we will pull it out, clean it and then use some green Lock-Tite on it.

Let the re-tuning begin.

Keith, I suspect there are more people reading than what you think. Not everybody has gone to facebook, that platform seems to push click bait and in the end there is very little depth, seems like lots of random photos, at least this is my experience.

I always enjoy reading your tech bits and hearing what specialty is up to. Keep it up, some of us need our fix!

I have a 510. It has not moved in 24 months, but today it got moved sideways on floor jack in order to make room for another project. Snore.
