Fuel System on 81 510

Post by littlewagon »

I am wondering if there is a specific way to removing a mechanical fuel pump on my 1981 datsun 510 wagon? Or do I just unbolt and pull? Also does anyone know a part number for a replacement mechanical pump?
Also, in trying to rebuild my hitachi carburetor, my 2nd barrel is seized and will not join the party. I was thinking about weber 32/36. Outside of an adapter plate, is that a pretty straight forward process?
Any knowledge is appreciated.

Is the hitachi vacuum diaphragm driven? On My earlier 510, The secondary butterfly had corroded and frozen due to a cracked vacuum diaphragm. I was able to eventually work it free, and then repaired the diaphragm that activated it. The weber is fine, but it takes a fair amount of tuning to actually make it idle and run right (different jets etc.) If you can get the hitachi working correctly, it will likely run better than the weber (in my opinion).
Finished is better than perfect......

It's vacuum. The diaphragm is functioning properly. Either the butterfly is stuck, the shaft is seized, or a combination of the two. I have the entire carburetor apart and have soaked it in a carb wash bucket for 24hrs. I checked the bottom housing and the barrel was still stuck, so I put it back in the cleaner. I'm hoping to get it free.
