KNOX MOUNTAIN 2022

Post by bertvorgon »

As Knox is at this point a go for the May long weekend, I will keep bumping this thread along.

If all works for me I might blast up on the Saturday as I have done in the past. Usually zip for traffic and hopefully no snow! I would go in the G35.

Cam Thorkelson has entered so it will be nice to say hi. Campbell C. will be steward for the event as his car is not fixed from the horrible crash a few years ago.

I saw this ad in the local Muscle Car mag at Lordco, this is Bob Boyer's V-8 powered 510, I can only assume he will be running this year. Hopefully he has it running better than the last time I saw him try to run.

Here are a couple of pictures from 2019, Knox did not run in 2020 or 2021 due to Covid.

For you non-locals, getting below 2 minutes is a major goal to achieve over the 2.2 mile uphill challenge.

Hi Keith, I'll keep an eye on the thread. Looking forward to some normalcy this year with regards to car events. The usual shows in the Okanagan (Penticton, Peachland) are scheduled to run this year from what I understand.

Hey Matt,

I looked at the Penticton show site, wow, almost filled up already.

All the good spots taken and not many spots left. I thought I was early last time I went and that was an eye opener, people must have been there at 2 in the morning! I got jammed in to a crazy spot in the park, thought I was going to burn my clutch out. Shows like that are not for cars like mine with a racing clutch.

That was a great show for the variety of cars for sure, kinda like the Langley show was.

Such a gamble to, to drive so far if the weather grenades.

Morning World,

4 days till Knox Mountain, weather looks like it might be passable, cool, only 17C, likely be a bit warmer than that. It will be hard to get tires warm, people better be careful.

I still plan to head up Saturday, leaving around 4:30 AM, hopefully tonight's projected snow is gone. I have been caught before in snow storms on the way to and from Knox over the years.

Gates open at 9:00 am so I plan to be at the gate when it opens, given no highway problems. Not sure if I will drive my G35 or the Honda, see what highway conditions are like Friday afternoon.

Entry looks good, 57 entered so far, Wouter Bouman will be there with his insane RX7, 700 to 900 HP. Only 1 510 I can see entered, of Bob Boyer's.

I am going to take the Honda on this trip. Even though the weather is supposed to dry up for the weekend, you never know what can hit in the mountains.

The tires on the G35 are summer only, whereas the Honda still has my good winter tires on.

A bit more snow predicted today/tonight but it is not sticking on the Coke, only on the Connector at this point.

I was at Specialty the other day and Wouter had stopped to pickup a drum of fuel for the RX7.

He has dyno'd it at 910 HP and now has a boost controller to help in the lower gears.

I will try to shoot some video of this thing.

The price of race fuel...C16 is CRAZY.....$1,550 drum. Kinda glad I'm done with those days.

What is it a gallon for E85 up there? Lots of guys run it down here it's cheap for race gas.

Only a few scattered stations here carry it and as a blend, at least as tested by some, the grade is all over the map, some testing only 65 -67% ethanol.

E85 here comes out of Alberta

I had trouble even finding a price here.

First, that’s crazy hp!

Second, C16 ouch! that’s no fun when your only having fun.

Have great weekend.

That's a bummer. Not a lot down here but you can find it. All the fast cars I autox against run it.
