Sounds like the best you could do from afar.

Great deal and great support. Maybe the market demands it now, but the shops I've delt with wouldn't give valvetrain photos or compression check. Nice find. Photos when it arrives!

All that water all over the motor and floor...they hose it off? I hope it wasn't sitting outside.

I think that they take the pictures with the motor wet for better contast in the pictures, maybe stream clean it too. Inside looks pretty clean.

If possible try for an S14 series 2 or S15, much better power & driveability.
Intecooler piping is less complex & looks neater.
BTW our kit will take 7" rims with 280 struts & minor flaring.

Engine came in today on, yay drove in to work on my day off to check it out and enough talk on to the photos..
Image
Image
Used my boroscope to look into the cylinders took a photo of one of the pistons, the rest look the same
also the cylinder walls look in good shape,no scoring or visible damage..
Image
Now a couple questions these coolant lines that go along the back of the engine seem to loop and than t into a small line that feeds the turbo. Are you guys leaving these lines alone, removing them(cap them off below the intake manifold?
Image
This looks like a secondary air or some kind of emission crap it goes to the downpipe is it safe to remove?
Image
What are the two solenoids next to the ignitor chip
Image
Where do these connectors go to,there cut on the harness and t off from the harness going to the ignitor chip.

Last two mystery connectors

Some of your questions are answered in PMK's build thread, he just went through the same process.

The photo inside the cylider bore shows an amazing clean piston crown - machine marks clearly visable. It just shows how good the fuel system manages the mixture - all the time.

What's the deal with the grinding off of the valve cover paint over the lettering only? Weird.
Have others bought JDM import engines that had this?
Now you have to find a new cover or have this one painted or powder-coated.
But at least the rest lokks nice.

I'll check pmk's thread again. I was surprised he w clean the pistons were I was expecting considerable amount of carbon but they had none.after closer inspection it looks like salt water corrosion on the valve cover' intake manifold and some on the block. I'm going to sand blast the valve cover and paint it to match the car

Corrosion makes sense, since the letters were exposed aluminum, allowing oxidation to start there.

If you end up not using the solenoids for EGR and wastegate I'll take them. Nice motor set. Pull the tranny and see what clutch is on it.
